Design requirements of gravity racking

With the continuous development and maturity of shelf industry technology in China, the gravity racking began to be used in domestic warehouses. Although the construction cost of the gravity racking warehouse is relatively high, the application rate of the warehouse in small and medium-sized enterprises in China is not very high, but its development prospects are good, and the future demand will be greater and greater.

The gravity shelf is designed with roller seat, properly inclined, driven by the self-weight of goods. The pallets are intensively stored and in the best physical cycle, so as to achieve the effect of first in first out logistics. A kind of intensive storage warehouse system can make full use of the warehouse area, and the utilization rate of the area of the generally fixed rack warehouse is increased by about 30%.

The four basic principles of rack design are:

Moderate length of the ramp

The total depth design of the rack (i.e. the length of the guide rail) should not be too large, otherwise the unusable up and down “dead angle” will be large, which will affect the space utilization, and the ramp will be too long, the controllability of the sliding will be poor, the sliding momentum is large, which is easy to cause the sliding not smooth, blocked, and the pallet goods overturn.

Reasonable gradient

After the slideway is installed on the rack, a certain gradient shall be ensured so that the pallet can slide under the action of gravity. If the slope of the slide surface is too small, the pallet will not slide or slide smoothly; if the slope is too large, the tray will slide too fast, causing impact or overturning.

In addition, the size of the slope also depends on the material of the tray bottom. Generally, 3.5% – 3.0% can be taken for wooden tray, 2.5% – 2.0% for plastic tray and 2.0% – 1.5% for steel pallet. In the actual warehouse design, the best choice of slope should be determined after detailed calculation and experiment.

Add damping device

In order to make the sliding smooth, such as a long ramp, in order to prevent the pallet goods from overturning due to excessive impact force when sliding to the lowest end, a buffer device and a pick-up separation device should be set at the lowest part of the ramp, so the design, manufacturing, and installation are difficult and the cost is high.

Racks should not be too high

No matter what kind of rack warehouse, reliability and operability are particularly important. The gravity rack is generally within 6 meters, and the weight of the single cargo is generally within 1000kg. If the height is too high, the single cargo is too heavy, its reliability and operability will be greatly reduced.
