Understanding How a Pallet Rack Safety Bar Works

The safety bar—also known as a partition, back block, or baffle—is a critical pallet racking accessory designed to enhance the safety and operational efficiency of heavy-duty pallet racks. Its core functions include:

1. Safety protection‌

It can prevent pallet cargo from sliding off the rear end of the rack due to vibration or inertia of forklift operation, especially reducing the risk of falling when stored at high positions‌.
Isolate adjacent cargo to avoid damage to cargo or packaging due to friction or collision‌.

‌2. Auxiliary load capacity and pressure dispersion‌

Increase the force contact area between the pallet and the rack to reduce the risk of local deformation of the pallet‌.

The auxiliary beam is loading the weight of the pallet, but it should be noted that the safety bars are only auxiliary; the main load capacity still depends on the beam, and the edge of the pallet must exceed the beam‌.

3. Optimize warehouse management‌

Divide the storage area to facilitate the classification and positioning of goods and shorten the picking path‌.

Prevent cross-contamination of goods that are easy to smell or deteriorate (such as food and chemicals)‌.

4. Installation location‌

The safety bar is usually fixed at the rear beam of the rack, leaving a gap of about 50mm between the pallet to avoid collision during normal operation of the forklift‌.

It is recommended to install it compulsorily for high-rise shelves (>8m) to prevent the risk of falling objects from high altitudes.

Available types:

Type Carrying capacity Applicable scenarios

1. One-line safety bar: Weak Light load, anti-slip storage needs

2. I-shaped safety bar: Medium Standard pallet cargo

3. T-shaped safety bar: Strong, Heavy, or easily deformed pallets‌

The safety bar is generally used with the back net: the back net prevents forward falling, and the safety bar prevents backward sliding‌.

High-rise shelves need to be equipped with anti-collision guardrails‌ and foot guards, so that a complete three-dimensional protection system can be formed‌.
